Estimates use a 700 lb hanging weight for the whole animal and include typical processing of about $200 for a quarter, $400 for a half and $800 for a whole. A lighter carcass is prorated. “Per packaged lb” divides the estimated price by typical packaged weight so you can compare shares. You are not buying meat by the pound. You are buying a share of a live animal.
Planning estimate from hanging weight
Slide the carcass weight around the typical size. This is a planning number, not a quote. Your invoice uses the actual hanging weight and the processor's fees.
$2,500
Deposit to reserve: $500, applied to the balance. Packaged meat is typically about 180 lb.
What decides your final price
- Hanging weight. Your share price is based on the weight of the carcass. A larger animal costs more and yields more meat.
- Processing. The processor charges for cutting, wrapping and freezing. Estimates include typical fees, and your invoice shows the exact amounts.
- Your cut choices. Extras like patties, sausage, curing or smoking can add to processing fees.
- Pickup or delivery. We confirm arrangements and any fees before your order is ready.
Deposit and payment
A deposit reserves your share and is applied to your final balance. The remainder is due before pickup or delivery. Accepted payment methods, and deposit and refund terms, are spelled out in your share agreement.
Is it cheaper than the store?
A share is priced like a bulk purchase of mixed cuts: steaks, roasts and ground beef together. The real difference is what you get. You choose the cuts, you know where the animal came from, and you buy once instead of weekly. Decide based on what fits your family, not on a savings claim.
